Car with which engine to choose: gasoline or diesel?

When choosing a car for both short-term and long-term lease, most often they are guided by the appearance of the body, the convenience of the interior, the variety of functionality, and only then - on the type of engine used. This approach is not always correct, because it is depending on the type of fuel used (gasoline or diesel) that the power, vehicle dynamics and fuel consumption within the city and beyond will change.

Why are there different types of engines on the same machines?

Maintaining customer attention, increasing demand for cars and the interest of potential buyers are the key tasks of auto manufacturers. There are practically no local brands that would supply goods within the same region. Most often, cars are also imported to neighboring countries.

A striking example was the Renault Logan II model from the Romanian manufacturer. The company was able to take into account the peculiarities of each market, supplying gasoline and diesel vehicles to India, Latin America, Iran and other countries. Apart from some changes in the name, various modifications are also available. The diesel model is especially popular in Ukraine.

When deciding which car option is preferable for you, it is worth remembering that both types belong to internal combustion engines. This is where the similarities end. The features and advantages of each of them should be highlighted.

Brief description of the gasoline engine

During operation, the air-fuel mixture forms outside the cylinder, in the intake manifold. At the end of the compression stroke, air and gasoline vapors are mixed. The resulting homogeneous mixture is evenly distributed inside the tank and heats up to almost 500 degrees. But even in this case, this indicator is not enough for a fire. The spark is supplied by spark plugs. A similar system is quite common and is used, among other things, in the Citroen C-Elysee.

Brief description of the diesel engine

Unlike a gasoline engine, a diesel engine does not compress a homogeneous mixture, but only air at a pressure of 50 bar. As a result, it heats up to 900 degrees, and only then small drops of diesel fuel are fed in front of the upper point of the piston. The resulting heterogeneous mixture does not need ignition from spark plugs, it ignites spontaneously. Such subtleties could not but affect the features of the entire car, so it is worth sharing the advantages of each of the types.

The ratio of power, fuel consumption and dynamics of two types of engines

When looking at which car you can rent on the NarsCars website, there are some differences to keep in mind. If we compare the power of the two engines, it should be noted right away that gasoline models are more powerful due to a short stroke and less torque, therefore they accelerate to 100 km faster.

The only rival to the gasoline engine can be perhaps the diesel, equipped with a turbocharger. But if your priority is not speed, but traction, then we recommend paying attention to diesel engines. In this they win over gasoline engines. Regardless of the number of revolutions, you will experience only smooth traction.

However, it must be remembered that a diesel engine is not capable of developing fast revs at lightning speed, it is less dynamic. After all, the fuel simply will not have time to burn in the cylinders, it needs more time. To ensure stable operation, more expensive parts are required to make the engine heavier.

The second important point is economy. Key features include lower fuel consumption due to the high compression ratio of the air-fuel mixture. Most models on the Ukrainian market provide almost 45% higher efficiency.

But it should be fair to say that gasoline-powered cars also have representatives that consume only 5.5-6.5 liters, for example, Hyundai Solaris. If long trips are a priority for you, you should pay attention to cars with diesel engines. At the same time, be prepared for the increased noise that is heard when the windows are open. Most of the models are equipped with high-quality soundproofing, so the operation of the engine in the cabin is not so audible.

If you are interested in the issue of emissions, remember that reliable diesel particulate filters are used in cars, regardless of engine type. This reduces the negative impact on the environment.

Which car segment uses diesel and gasoline engines?

Reasonable fuel consumption, fast acceleration and smooth traction are benefits for all motorists on a wide range of budgets. That is why you can easily pick up a car in any price segment:

  • economy;
  • business;
  • premium.

At the same time, you are not limited in the choice of the type of transmission when booking a rental in NarsCars. Both manual and automatic transmissions will be available.

Conclusions

It is not so easy to choose a car for rent on your own. It is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of using the car in the city, the amount of fuel consumption, the subtleties of service. If you want to rent a car for a couple of days, many advise you to pay attention to gasoline models. And for longer trips, diesel cars are a priority.

Therefore, if you are in doubt about your choice, we recommend that you contact NarsCars specialists to get quality advice. You can book now Renault Logan II, Citroen C-Elysee, Hyundai Solaris, Volkswagen Polo and many other models for any period. All that is needed for this is to call the phones listed on the site.
